Essex Predicted Sunset times
If you are thinking of a golden hour photoshoot with myself this year use this handy guide as a basis for planning what month works best for your families needs.
I’ll forever be a fan of a sunset session - the golden hazy light, the warm glow, and the soft shadows create an atmosphere that turns a simple moment into something beautiful. Whether you’re looking to capture your growing bump or freeze a moment in time with your family, an outdoor session at sunset is one of the most beautiful ways to do it.
What about the the kids bedtimes?!
If you love the idea of a sunset session but worry about keeping little ones up too late, the best months to book are spring and early autumn. From April to early June and late August to September, the sun sets earlier, making it easier for younger children to enjoy the experience without pushing their bedtime too far. In the height of summer, the sun sets much later, meaning sessions often start around 7:30-8:30 pm, which can be a little trickier for families with young children.
Golden hour, that magical time just before the sun dips below the horizon, is perfect for photography. The soft, warm tones bring out natural skin tones, add depth to images, and create a dreamy, cinematic feel. Unlike the harsh midday sun, which can create strong shadows, golden hour light is gentle and flattering, making for timeless and emotive photographs.
A sunset shoot usually begins about an hour and a half before the sun fully sets, ensuring we make the most of that stunning golden light. Start times vary throughout the year—earlier in spring and autumn (around 6:30-7:30 pm) and later in midsummer. Before every session, I check sunset timings to ensure we get the absolute best light for your photos.
The beauty of these sessions is in their simplicity. There’s no need for stiff posing—just you or yourself and your family, and the golden evening light.
If you’re thinking about booking a sunset session in Essex, I’d love to help you create something truly special and if you are worried about locations I have that covered for you too!
