Your Essex Newborn Photoshoot: Answering Your most Asked Questions

Booking a newborn photoshoot is an exciting milestone, but I understand it can come with its own share of worries. As your Essex-based newborn photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many families, and I’m here to address your concerns and make sure we create a beautiful, relaxed session that you’ll treasure forever.

Here are some of the questions I hear most often:

  • I’m worried my baby will be fussy and not sleep during the session.

This is a concern I completely understand! Babies can be unpredictable, but that’s why I build flexibility into each session. Whether your baby is wide awake, a bit fussy, or peacefully asleep, we’ll go with their flow. I allow plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and settling, so there’s no rush. We’ll capture beautiful moments whether your baby is alert or snoozing. The key is creating a calm, relaxed environment tailored to your baby’s needs.

  • 2. I have a very wriggly, headstrong toddler—I'm concerned they won’t cooperate.

Toddlers are full of energy and big personalities, which makes them so fun to photograph! If your toddler is a bit wriggly or headstrong, don’t worry—that’s something I’m used to working with. I’ll make sure the session is engaging and playful for your little one, with breaks and plenty of patience. My goal is to keep things lighthearted and fun, capturing genuine moments of connection between your toddler and your newborn. One thing I would recommend is having a grandparent or friend bring them either towards the end of the session or at the very beginning, then after their photos are done taking them home or for some park play whilst the rest of the session is completed. Of course this is completely up to you as you know your toddler better than anyone and whether they will last the session without getting too fed up and over it!

  • 3. I have nothing to wear post-birth—HELP!

This is a common concern for new mums, and you’re not alone. You’ve just welcomed a new baby into the world, and you deserve to feel comfortable and beautiful during your session. I suggest simple, neutral clothing that makes you feel good—flowy dresses, soft knits, or even a favourite loungewear piece can work wonderfully. I’m here to help you choose outfits that fit the look and feel of our session. And don’t worry, I have a selection of carefully chosen dresses in warm brown, rust, and creamy tones available in my client wardrobe. Just arrive, pick your favorite, and you’re all set!

  • 4. We’re a bit awkward in front of the camera—I’m worried it will show in our photos.

Feeling awkward in front of the camera is something I hear often, and it’s completely normal. My job is to create a relaxed environment where you feel at ease. I’ll guide you through natural, comfortable poses that don’t feel forced. Instead of focusing on being "perfect," you can just enjoy these moments with your baby. I focus on capturing genuine connections and emotions, so even if you’re feeling a bit awkward, your love and bond will shine through beautifully in the photos.

Your newborn photoshoot is a celebration of this precious time in your family’s life, and I’m here to make the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible. If you have any other questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’d love to chat and help put your mind at ease.

Whether it’s your first newborn session or you’re returning for another round with a new addition, I’m honoured to be part of your journey.
